In CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Laser Cutting the forming process is guided by computer instructions to cut or engrave materials. Waterjet Cutting is better suited for thicker materials as it does not create excess heat.

Waterjet Cutting uses a high-pressure stream of water mixed with an abrasive material to cut through the metal. This process is only for cutting. Waterjet Cutting is better suited for thicker materials and can be utilized for materials that are thermosensitive and reflective, which are not suited for lasers. Waterjet Cutting does not produce heat, making it useable for all materials.


Waterjet can be divided into pure waterjet and abrasive waterjet. Pure Water Jet Cutting is intended for softer materials such as wood, plastics and rubber. But when the water stream incorporates an abrasive such as titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, glass, ceramic or concrete, the cutting capabilities are enhanced and the tool can cut through hard metals.


CNC Waterjet Cutting: A Fully Automated, High-Precision Industrial Cutting Process

The waterjet is controlled with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technology. CNC programs are pre-written for the particular part beforehand. CNC Waterjet is a fully automated, high-precision industrial cutting process.


For cutting soft materials, the force of the water is sufficient. For hard materials, the force of the water can lead to a slower cutting process. Abrasive material is added to the water stream to speed up the cutting action. The process is then called abrasive water jet cutting. CNC can control both pure and abrasive water jet cutting.
